Domestic Violence Initiative

Scriptural Foundation…

Ephesians 5: 11 – 14 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light.

Goal...

The Domestic Violence Initiative (DVI) exists to raise awareness concerning family and domestic violence, and to find ways to support other organizations that are helping domestic violence victims and perpetrators. Our goal is to guide Harmony Creek Church in providing a safe place as a congregation for all those affected by domestic violence.

Description of Activities...

The DVI educates the congregation about the nature, scope and importance of preventing and treating domestic violence because it is a reality in every segment of every community. The DVI team has provided special worship services and sermons on the topic(s) of domestic violence as well as how the church sometimes enables violence or hurts those caught in a domestic violence situation. The church also has conducted Workship efforts to purchase and prepare needed household items for victims who have been forced to set up new homes as a result of domestic violence. Learn more about Artemis Center of Dayton. Currently, we collaborate work with the Artemis Center of Dayton and the Family Violence Prevention Center in Xenia – two leading area organizations working to end domestic violence. The DVI team continues to explore ways to educate the congregation in its effort to become a safe place for DV victims. We welcome anyone with interest and/or experience in this important and pervasive issue to join us.
