A program of Justice and Witness Ministries.
Mission: To work collaboratively with other churches to inspire and equip communities to end poverty by building intentional relationships across class, race and cultural lines.
Description of Activities:
Circles is a community that encourages others, in groups of three to four people, to act as “allies” to a “circle leader” (a person or family in poverty). The focus is on building bridges between those in the upper and middle classes with families in poverty. Circles promotes reciprocity between members, encouraging the circle leaders who are still in poverty to give back to their allies in their own ways. The allies are not there to give money; they instead provide emotional support and networking opportunities for the circle leaders by using their experiences to help others.
Training is provided for those interested in becoming involved so that they can better understand the issues and needs of those living in poverty. Some of the training includes a poverty simulation and an inner city bus trip to get a first-hand look at what life can be like for those in poverty.
